Donations needed for flood victims in northeast Missouri: nonperishible food items; paper products, including toilet paper and paper towels; laundry detergent; rubber gloves; work gloves; insect repellent products, especially mosquito repellent; bottled water; box fans; Kilz paint. Facing the Mortgage Crisis: America is in the midst of a mortgage crisis, and the St. Louis region is among the areas being hard hit with more foreclosures than the national average. But many people can be helped if they know where to turn for trusted information. In response, KETC/Channel 9 has launched Facing the Mortgage Crisis, a community initiative with the United Way of Greater St. Louis and numerous nonprofit organizations throughout our region to connect people with trusted information and free services. Find out more.

Turn to United Way 2-1-1 for information on volunteer centers; mentorship opportunities; locations to donate food, clothing, furniture, computers and other items; or one-time, long-term, permanent, part-time or group volunteering opportunities.

2-1-1 gives you three ways to find volunteer opportunities.

1. Look up agencies and programs in our 2-1-1 database.

2. Call 2-1-1, or if 2-1-1 is not yet active with your phone provider, you can reach the 2-1-1 call center by dialing (800) 427-4626.

3. Check with your area United Way for volunteer opportunities:
